Communication at Work

This program is for teens age 16 and older as well as young adults who are either planning on getting a job in the near future or currently have a job and would like support in learning about social communication skills used in the work setting. During your first session, you will choose the specific areas that you what to work on. These may include:

  • Writing a resume and applying for a job

  • Preparing for an interview (answering/asking questions, speaking clearly)

  • Executive functioning (planning, organizing, memory, time management, etc.)

  • Conversation skills/communicating with your boss, coworkers, and customers

  • Self-advocacy

  • Solving problems and navigating conflicts at work

  • Understanding social cues

  • Perspective taking

Each session will focus on the topic of your choice with review sessions as needed. You will also be given a specific task to complete each week to help with carryover of what you have learned. Session activities are adapted to meet the needs of different learners. Some individuals who find working on these skills beneficial include those with learning disabilities, developmental/intellectual disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, among others.
